Many Hollywood actors have worked in different jobs to support themselves. Since they didn’t become famous overnight, they were able to achieve financial stability by taking on a variety of jobs. While Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum once admitted to being str*ppers and Jeremy Renner revealed he was a makeup artist, Johnny Depp once mentioned how he enjoyed his other job where he could have fake names. Scroll down to find out the scoop.

Depp’s charm has not faded in almost four decades. The actor made a debut in the horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street, released in 1984. After a few other gigs, he rose to fame for his lead role in 21 Jump Street.

Johnny Depp has humble beginnings and he talks about them often in his interviews. The actor once told how he was raised with his older siblings in a household where his mother would beat them with anything in her hand. He dropped out of high school at the age of 16 to pursue his dream of becoming a musician. After his marriage with Lori Anne Allison in 1983, the actor struggled to make ends meet and took a job selling ballpoint pens to support his family.

Johnny Depp revealed in an interview with Interview Magazine that he was a telemarketer. One thing fun about the job was that the Pirates of the Caribbean star got to create new identities for himself and one of the names that he mentioned he used to be was ‘Edward Quartermaine’.

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star said, “I marketed pens—on the phone. But the beauty of the gig was that you had to call these strangers and say, ‘Hi, how ya doing?’ You made up a name, like, ‘Hey, it’s Edward Quartermaine from California. You’re eligible to receive this grandfather clock or a trip to Tahiti.'” Johnny Depp explained how he would promise his customers all sorts of things in order to get them to buy pens. He added, “But in fact, I think that’s the first time I experienced acting.”

The actor and Lori, his first wife, divorced two years after they were married. They cited irreconcilable disagreements. They remained good friends after their divorce.

Depp’s recent return to acting with Jeanne Du Barry received positive reviews.
