James Gunn has finally found the Lex Luthor for Superman: Legacy. The DC film will be first to come out of Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU. The casting of the leads was done a few months back, with David Corenswet securing the roles and Rachel Brosnahan securing the roles. Now, Nicholas Hoult is reportedly cast as Lex. Luthor, for the uninitiated, was created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and first appeared in 1940’s Action Comics #23 (a comic book). Since then, he has appeared in a number of animated series, television shows, and even live-action films as Superman’s archnemesis. He is a billionaire genius who hates Kal El because he views him as a danger to humans. Hoult was reportedly in the running for the role as Clark Kent but ultimately it went to David. Hoult was in the running with Alexander and Bill Skarsgard for the role of Lex.
According to Deadline, Nicholas Hoult has reportedly been in talks to portray Lex Luthor, in David Corenswet’s Superman: Legacy. James Gunn will be directing the film. The SAG-AFTRA strike halted the casting process, but it appears that the studio has not waited any longer to cast the villain for the eagerly awaited DCU film.
Earlier, it was reported that Maria Gabriela de Faria from Venezuela would be playing The Engineer in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Now, Nicholas Hoult will join her as Lex Luthor.
Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey and Jesse Eisenberg played this DC megalomaniac before Hoult. WB Studios has not commented on this.
The internet is ecstatic about the casting. They have reacted positively and taken to their X account.
One of the fan wrote, “He will probably eat.”
A second one wrote, “Hell yeah, way……..way better than the last guy!!! It’s for certain.”
The third one said “Holy casting.”
A fourth one followed, saying “PERFECTION.” Nicholas Hoult is deserving of this big win.
Another joked, “I used pray for times like these.”

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, directed by James Gunn, is scheduled to be released on 2025.
