In 2023, there will be plenty of light-hearted content for K-drama lovers. Strong Girl Nam-soon, who has previously entertained the masses with King The Land and Destined With You as well as A Time Called You, is currently entertaining them. The JTBC drama Strong Girl Nam Soon stars Lee Yoomi and Byeon Wa Woo-seok as the lead actors. It is a spinoff from the highly successful drama Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.
The plot of the show revolves around three generations who are incredibly strong. Gang Nam-soon flew to Korea from Mongolia to search for her parents, but she soon found herself involved in crimes which she investigated with her superpowers. The show premiered in October and immediately overtook Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’s debut episode. According to Soompi the premiere of the show had an average rating of 4,3% across the country and was ranked first in its time slot. The previous episode of the show had a rating score of 3.8%.
Strong Girl Nam-soon, despite a relatively high score in the viewership category, could not surpass King The Land’s first place score. The show featured YoonA, 2PM’s Lee Junho and other stars. The typical K drama that featured a beautiful love between an heir, and one of his hardworking employees. The average score for the JTBC drama was 5.1% in its premiere. The average score for the second episode was 7.5%. The show had a huge run at the end and gained a lot of attention due to its availability in multiple languages on Netflix.
While we cannot compare the premiere episodes to analyze the difference in viewers, it has something to do the cast. YoonA, a member of Girls’ Generation, has starred in a number of successful shows and her loyal fan base must have tuned in so they could watch her magic. Lee Yoomi’s popularity has increased over the past two year despite her small role in Squid Game. Strong Girl Nam-soon, which still has a few episodes to air, might surpass King The Land in terms of viewership.
