She revealed in a recent People interview that she took inspiration from Sylvester Stallone’s style when designing Ken. Fur coats were the mainstay of Sly’s look in the 1970s and 1980s for the uninitiated. Gerwig chose a more stylish version to style Ryan Gosling.
Greta Gerwig said of Gosling as Ken in her blockbuster Barbie film, “When I consider adorned men, he’s the best.” I feel like Ken wasn’t anything if he wasn’t a man looking for adornment. The director also shared how the ‘I’m Just Ken’ was also inspired by Stallone.
