Suryakumar is likely to captain the team in the absence Hardik Pandya for the T20 series with Australia

Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently preparing for the World Cup’s final stages, will also be captaining India in the five match T20 series starting on 22 November. Hardik Pandya is likely to miss the T20 series. The incumbent vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav will lead a squad that lacks experience without Virat Kohli. Ruturaj Gaikwad is Surya’s sole competitor for the captaincy.

The CSK captain reaffirmed his credentials as a leader by leading India to a victory at the Asian Games. Gaikwad, who was captaining a second-string Indian team, showed calmness, composure and shrewdness in winning the gold medal for India. Gaikwad was praised by all and compared to MS Dhoni for his captaincy. Gaikwad is not a part of the regular team and may not captain India for the Australia T20 series.

BCCI wants to prepare Hardik Pandya’s successor, in case he becomes injured again. Surya has been the vice-captain for the T20 team, and also acted as captain when Hardik took a break or was on rest.
