Sundar has been added to the squad for the IND vs AUS T20Is starting on November 23.
Selectors have begun the transition process after the ODI World Cup disappointment. They have already started planning for the upcoming white-ball tournaments. Washington Sundar has been selected in the squad for IND vs AUS T20Is starting on November 23, despite not being able to cement a place in India’s white-ball XI.
The young allrounder has been in the squad and out for the last 18 months, but is likely to become a regular member as Team India begins their preparations for the coming ICC tournaments.
In the next 12 months, senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will likely be gradually removed from the ODI squad. They haven’t been part of India’s T20I plans since World Cup 2022.
Ravichandran Ashwin was called up to the World Cup squad at the last-minute, but he played only one match. The veteran spinner won’t be playing in white-ball formats for India any more.
Sundar, who debuted for India in 2017 against Sri Lanka has been in outstanding form over the last 12 months. Sundar is a great spinner and also provides a left handed batting option. This is something India has been searching for since Yuvraj’s departure.
Sundar’s inclusion in the Indian white-ball team is a golden chance for the Tamil Nad born all-rounder.
