Khabib Nurmagomedov’s final UFC bout took place at UFC 254 in 2020, where he faced Justin Gaethje and emerged victorious with a second-round submission. Khabib announced his decision to retire after this fight.
He retired as the lightweight champion and ended his UFC career 29-0. On March 19, 2021, Dana White, the president of the UFC, publicly acknowledged that he had accepted Khabib‘s decision to retire, thereby relinquishing the UFC Lightweight Championship.

White responded to Von’s question about his emotions during a recent conversation with Theo Von. “Was it a fighter who retired that broke your heart?” Von asked, In reply to that White said “Khabib was the tough retirement, cause i think khabib had so much more to offer and so much more to accomplish, but i think when his dad passed away kinda su*k the fun out of it for him and he was done.”
